Killian’s Irish Red – Snobby Beer Reviews

This is the Snobby Beer review of Killian’s Irish Red from Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado. Killian’s is an amber/red lager, and is available year-round. According to the website, Killian’s started as a more traditional Irish Red Ale. George Killian supposedly wanted to share his beer so much that he brought it to America. Whether or not this story is true, nobody can deny the fact that this is one of the most widely available beers on the market in America today.

From the George Killian’s website:

“Appearance:
Deep ruby red in color with a dense off-white foam.

Aroma:
Roasted and toasted caramel characteristics with ale-like fruit esters.

Taste:
Toasted/roasted caramel malt introduction with nice bready characteristics.

Mouth Feel:
Full-bodied with medium carbonation.

Finish:
Well-balanced with slight lingering citrus rind and subtle sweetness.”

Oskar Blues Ten Fidy – Snobby Beer Reviews

This is the Snobby Beer review of Ten Fidy from Oskar Blues Grill & Brewery in Lyons, Colorado. This Imperial Stout comes in a can, and gets its name from the Alcohol By Volume which is 10.50%. Not a whole lot of Imperial Stouts come in cans, much less any that are as highly regarded as Ten Fidy. You may remember that I have previously tried their Dale’s Pale Ale when I was invited to the Better Beer Authority. This beer gets a lot of hype – is it worth it?

From the Oskar Blues website:

“Ten FIDY Imperial Stout — This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.”

Bell’s Hopslam – Snobby Beer Reviews

This is the Snobby Beer review of Hopslam from Bell’s Beer, Inc. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Hopslam is an American Imperial IPA ( or double IPA ) that gets tons and tons of hype when it is released each year. Hopslam is brewed with six different hop varieties and honey to create a complex flavor and body.

There’s also a nice little shout out to the guys at the Better Beer Authority! Cheers, guys!

From the Bells website:

“Starting with six different hop varietals added to the brew kettle & culminating with a massive dry-hop addition of Simcoe hops, Bell’s Hopslam Ale possesses the most complex hopping schedule in the Bell’s repertoire. Selected specifically because of their aromatic qualities, these Pacific Northwest varieties contribute a pungent blend of grapefruit, stone fruit, and floral notes. A generous malt bill and a solid dollop of honey provide just enough body to keep the balance in check, resulting in a remarkably drinkable rendition of the Double India Pale Ale style.”

A fantastic beer made right here in Ohio!

This is the Snobby Beer review of White Rajah from The Brew Kettle in Strongsville, Ohio. White Rajah is an American IPA that has been getting a lot of attention. I feel like I don’t showcase enough of the fantastic beers from my home state of Ohio, so I’m trying to fix that!

New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red – Snobby Beer Reviews

This is the Snobby Beer review of Wisconsin Belgian Red from New Glarus Brewing in New Glarus, Wisconsin. Each bottle of this beer features over a pound of cherries. This epic cherry beer is so unique that the brewer applied for a patent!

From the New Glarus website:

“You hold the marriage of wine and beer. Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin Farmed Wheat and Belgian Roasted Barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year.

Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet. Serve your friends Belgian Red in a brandy snifter or champagne flute and toast life with beer from the land of Wisconsin. “

New Glarus Raspberry Tart – Snobby Beer Review

This is the Snobby Beer review of Raspberry Tart from New Glarus Brewing in New Glarus, Wisconsin. This beer features a ridiculous amount of raspberry. At only 4% Alcohol By Volume, this beer is almost like a dessert in a glass. The brewery recommends serving this beer very cold in a champagne flute glass.

From the New Glarus website:

“Treat yourself to a rare delight. The voluminous raspberry bouquet will greet you long before your lips touch your glass. Serve this Wisconsin framboise very cold in a champagne flute. Then hold your glass to a light and enjoy the jewel-like sparkle of a very special ale.

Oregon proudly shares their harvest of mouth watering berries, which we ferment spontaneously in large oak vats. Then we employ Wisconsin farmed wheat and year old Hallertau hops to round out this extravaganza of flavor.”

Special thanks to Duff27 on Beer Advocate for hooking me up with this bottle!

The Bruery 4 Calling Birds – Snobby Beer Written Reviews

The Bruery 4 Calling Birds

I know, the holidays are over. But it is still the Winter season, and there’s still plenty of beer to be enjoyed! This one was consumed on Christmas Eve 2011.

4 Calling Birds from The Bruery is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, and is 11% ABV. This is part of the 12 Days of Christmas series. The Bruery will release a beer every year, and started with A Partridge in a Pear Tree. This is the fourth in the series. Each beer is made to be aged until the 12th year of the series (12 Drummers Drumming).

From The Bruery’s website:

Spiced Strong Dark Ale. The Twelve Days of Christmas series continues! We took inspiration from the traditional winter warmer for our fourth verse, integrating gingerbread spices into a robust dark ale. Notes of licorice & banana bread mingle with dark fruit, molasses and bitter chocolate for a perfect cold weather sipper!

APPEARANCE

The beer pours a deep, dark reddish brown – almost black. It had a mocha head with large bubbles, and disappeared quickly. As I drank, there was no head and no visible carbonation. Large alcohol legs grab the edge of the glass. Not a bad looking brew. [Read more...]

Snobby Beer Written Review – Three Floyds Alpha Klaus Christmas (Xmas) Porter

Three Floyds Alpha Klaus 3 Floyds

Alpha Klaus is an American Poter from Three Floyds Brewing. While other holiday beers usually feature spices, Alpha Klaus only features Mexican cane sugar as an adjunct. The beer comes in at 6% Alcohol By Volume, and is released in November.

From the Three Floyds website:

Alpha Klaus is Alpha King’s festive cousin. A big American Christmas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt, Mexican sugar and of course, tons of strange American hops. Cheers! November release.

APPEARANCE

The beer is very dark and it looks thick, much like a stout. The head was huge, light brown, and has tiny bubbles which makes it look like a big fluffy pillow. The lacing was pretty high throughout the session, and overall this beer is an absolutely gorgeous porter.  [Read more...]
