Three Floyds Dark Lord ’12 – Snobby Beer Reviews

This is the Snobby Beer review of Dark Lord Imperial Stout from Three Floyds Brewing Company in Munster, Indiana. This highly sought after beer is only available at Dark Lord Day, which is an anual festival that is located at the brewpub in Munster. This massive stout is 15% ABV. Check out my video from Dark Lord Day!

This video features Joshua Hatfield (who provided the beer) and Natalie Phillips from Belmont Party Supply and Brew Sisters Dayton. This is the first time I’ve had a female guest on the show!

From the Three Floyds website:

“A demonic Russian Style Imperial Stout, brewed with Intelligensia coffee Mexican vanilla, and Indian sugar this beer defies description, available one day a year in April at the brewery, Dark Lord Day.”

Dark Lord Day 2012 Recap

Saturday, April 28 was the annual Dark Lord Day over at Three Floyds Brewing in Munster, Indiana. For those of you who don’t you, the event is a festival based around the release of their imperial stout called Dark Lord. The event was a blast! I had planned on writing a big long post about everything that we did, but photos and video will have to suffice (for now, at least).

Dark Lord Day Eve – Hampton Inn, Munster, Indiana

As you probably already know, Dark Lord Day occurred last Saturday at Three Floyds. It was nothing but good times (video coming soon). What made it even better was the bottle share that occurred the night before at the Hampton Inn in Munster, Indiana which is just down the road from Three Floyds. It’s sort of a tradition to have a ridiculous beer tasting on the eve of Dark Lord Day, and I can safely say that this year was the most epic tasting I’ve ever been to. A really incredible amount of rare beers were opened and shared, and I would like to thank anyone and everyone who was apart of this!

Three Floyds XV Anniversary – How it went down

Last Saturday, November 12th (which also happened to be my 23rd birthday!), I headed up to Munster, Indiana for the Three Floyds 15th Anniversary party. I was with my cousin, Nick, and my friend, Bobby. The plan? Make the 4 hours trek, drink a bunch of amazing beer, hang out with some awesome people, and bring home some delicious bottles of the XV Anniversary Imperial Stout – AKA Baller Stout. Here’s a short summation of the day.

We arrived at 2 PM. The line was already full of hundreds of people, so we had to suck it up and wait. And wait. And wait even more. The whole line took about 2 hours to get through. Luckily, I had some trades arranged, so I got a bunch of really awesome beers while waiting in line (thanks guys!). We also brought a few beers of our own to enjoy while waiting, so it wasn’t too horrible. Once we got in, we got the opportunity to wait in another line for the chance to buy bottles of beer. This time, though, members of our group were able to leave the line to go out and grab a round of beer. They had beers from Three Floyds, Struise, Surly, Mikkeller, and Pizza Port available on tap. We had plenty of time to get a few rounds, because his line took another full 2 hours.

When we finally got through, we had the chance to buy the Baller Stout as well as some special hand-bottled, hand-numbered beers. I was lucky enough to get a bottle of SoBro, a sour brown ale, and Barrel Aged Owd Engwish Barley Whine. Woo hoo! I also got some great brews like Gumball Head, Dreadnaught, Alpha Klaus, and Amon Amarth – Ragnarok. [Read more...]
