Dark Lord Vertical Tasting

Dark Lord from Three Floyds is like the quintessential Midwest “big beer”. It’s huge (13-15% ABV), it has a cool label, an awesome name, and a must-attend event that is centered around its release every year in April. Plus, death metal starts playing when you crack one of them open. Most people think that the wax is for preventing oxygen and identifying the year it was brewed, but it’s really there to keep the death metal at bay.

Recently, my pal Gus from Professional Beer Reviews decided to crack open the vertical he had been working on, plus a few of the earlier vintages and a couple of barrel-aged Derk Lerds for extra brutality. Thanks, Gus! Gus is working on a video for the tasting, so make sure you check it out when it comes out!

The Bruery Black Tuesday (’11) – Snobby Beer Reviews

Check out the video that explains how we got this beer!

This is the Snobby Beer Review of Black Tuesday (2011 vintage) from The Bruery. This beer is MASSIVE, clocking in at 18.3% ABV. It’s aged in bourbon barrels for over a year, and is perhaps one of the most complex beers I’ve ever had. We received this beer (along with 5 other Bruery beers) from Greg Orth (HopHead101 from Beer Advocate) after sending him a one-of-a-kind collage made by Nick Satinover, who is guest-reviewing in this video. Thanks, Greg!

From the The Bruery’s website:

“Our infamous Black Tuesday is an Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon barrels for over a year. Rich caramel, toasted malt, vanilla, burnt wood, anise are just a few of the many flavors of this rich, decadent imperial stout.
ABV: varies, IBU: 40, SRM: 100+, Release: October (Available at Brewery Only)”

The Bruery Oude Tart – Snobby Beer Reviews

This is the Snobby Beer Review of Oude Tart from The Bruery. This sour ale is aged in red wine barrels for 18 months before being bottled. It used to be a brewery-only release but has since seen limited distribution – that being said, it’s stil la tough beer to find!

“Oude Tart is a Flemish-Style Red Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. Pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak.

ABV: 7.5%, IBU: 15, SRM: 16, Release: Varies (1st Release in January 2010, Available at Brewery Only)
2010 World Beer Cup Gold Medal Winner for the Belgian-Style Flanders Oud Brun or Oud Red category
2012 World Beer Cup Gold Medal Winner for the Belgian-style Flander Oude Brun or Oud Red category”

Dark Lord Day Eve – Hampton Inn, Munster, Indiana

As you probably already know, Dark Lord Day occurred last Saturday at Three Floyds. It was nothing but good times (video coming soon). What made it even better was the bottle share that occurred the night before at the Hampton Inn in Munster, Indiana which is just down the road from Three Floyds. It’s sort of a tradition to have a ridiculous beer tasting on the eve of Dark Lord Day, and I can safely say that this year was the most epic tasting I’ve ever been to. A really incredible amount of rare beers were opened and shared, and I would like to thank anyone and everyone who was apart of this!

My 1 Year Anniversary Beer Review Will Be…

February 28 is my “anniversary” of posting beer reviews on Youtube, so I decided that I was going to do something special for the occasion. I couldn’t decide which beer to review, so I thought it would be cool to write all the special beers I had on a piece of paper, cut them out, and tape them onto a dart board. I’ll let the dart decide which beer will mark the occasion!

And, for the record, I had to cut out like 5 minutes of me trying to hit something with the dart. I suck at darts.

I purposely made the video sort of long to build the suspense, but if you want to spoil the surprise it’s revealed at 2:58

Look for the review coming Feb. 28.

Cheers!

The Beer Cellar of Snobby Beer ( Max Spang ) BEER PORN!

This week, I decided to do something a little different. Instead of a review, I thought I’d post what I had in my beer cellar. This video is LONG – easily the longest video I’ve posted to youtube.

Most of these beers are not for trade, but I’m always open to listening to offers.

The list is as follows: [Read more...]
