January Beer Tasting

Last night, I hosted a small beer tasting for the first time. It was a very enjoyable time! The highlights of the night were The Bruery Batch 300 Tripel, Great Lakes Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout, Cantillon Classic Gueuze, ’08 Goose Island Pere Jacques, and a homebrewed chocolate coconut stout from Jason Box – yum!

Jason Box (DaytonBrewing) posted a video of some of the tasting, an anti-climactic opening of Gueuze, and me yelling at my loud dog. Check it out!

Snobby Beer Reviews – Founders CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout)

This is the Snobby Beer Review of the infamous CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) made by Founders Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This Imperial Stout was aged in bourbon barrels that previously held pure maple syrup. Bottles of this beer were released for the first time in 2011 – and I FAILED at getting my hands on a bottle. I did, however, get to try a sample of the stuff at the Big Beers and Barleywines Festival in Dayton, Ohio.

I had to cut this review short, but at least I was able to film a review! Filmed on my iPhone 4.

Special thanks to Nick Decker for filming this, and Natalie Moore from Belmont Party Supply for hooking me up with a sample.

From the Founders website:

“There has been a great deal of anticipation and speculation regarding the upcoming release after the success of Blushing Monk, the series’ debut, earlier this year. Canadian Breakfast Stout is the epitome of why Founders launched the Backstage Series: it brings some of the brewery’s most sought-after beers, which have been available primarily at the taproom or at a few select events, to a much larger audience.

Canadian Breakfast Stout is an Imperial Stout brewed with a blend of coffees and imported chocolates, then aged in spent bourbon barrels that have most recently been aging pure Michigan maple syrup. The final product has had stellar reviews and is currently the fifth highest rated beer in the world on www.BeerAdvocate.com.”
